Professional Development Program in the Global Business

Program Overview

The globalized world is full of new complex challenges for employers, employees as well as for innovative entrepreneurs. Weakened global economies and higher unemployment make both the job market in general, and the initiative of starting a new business a high-risk venture. In today’s economic environment, it is no longer enough to rely on domestic markets due to fierce foreign competition, and therefore knowledge of the strategies of other countries is essential in order to assure a business’ sustainability.  Globalization of markets and new technology has therefore had a crucial impact on business decision-makers and decision-making. However, responsible and entrepreneurial leadership can support the global community as a whole while simultaneously can solve many of today’s employment challenges.

In light of these harsh global challenges, which young employees and business-minded people around the world are facing today, the ICD has put together a Professional Development Program in order to assist such individuals in overcoming these global challenges and to become successful in the professional world of work. The ICD is looking to educate and support individuals in a two-week program with the development of their budding business minds in order to enable them to overcome challenges in the business world and mold them into successful business professionals.

In order to achieve these goals, the program will provide fresh insights into the world of business and entrepreneurship through a series of lectures and workshops led by the ICD board and faculty members, who have a tremendous and relevant experience in these areas. During the programs workshops, individuals will be able to propose business ideas to a panel of experts who will provide advice on what steps to next take, and funding and mentorship options.

The agenda of the program will include the following area and components:

Professional Development - Including a series of lectures and workshops aimed to provide a deep knowledge on developing professional skills that will help to expand personal skills, and put them into practice.

Marketing and Sales - Having learnt how to utilize professional development skills to advance business the essential role of marketing sales will be included.


Lectures & Seminars

Lectures and seminars will include an interdisciplinary mixture of the relevant topics to the field of cultural diplomacy and international relations taught by leading experts and practitioners in the field.

Lectures and seminars will explore and analyze the following topics:

  • International Economics Strategies for Sustainable Development
  • Creative Industries & their Role in the Global Economy
  • Building Economic Bridges in the Framework of Global Markets
  • Corporate Cultural Diplomacy and the Global Economy
  • Marketing and Sales: Social Media Marketing, Direct Marketing and Sales, Paid Advertisements and Online Marketing, Working with the Press
  • Starting A Global Business: Concept and Development, Legal Issues, Finances, Online Presentation, PR and Human Resources
  • Marketing and Sales: Social Media Marketing, Direct Marketing and Sales, Paid Advertisements, Online Marketing, and Working with the Press


The Certificate Program workshops are a blend of interactive academic studies and practical training, which will assist participants in the development of their professional skills.

Workshops will explore and analyze the following topics:

  • Role-play Simulation: "Developing Business and Trade in the Global Market of the Future"
  • Starting your own business
  • Workshops with successful entrepreneurs who started their own business at a young age
  • Essential skills to develop and expand the leadership repertoire
  • “Preparing Business Plan Together”“Getting a Job in the Global Economy”: Needed Qualifications, CV, Communication, Job Interviews, In the Office, Promotion

Program Locations

Based primarily in the ICD House in Berlin, the program sessions will be hosted in addition, at a number of leading political, historic, and cultural venues across the city.

Program Participants

Participation in the program is open to governmental & diplomatic officials, academics, artists, journalists, civil society practitioners, private sector representatives, young professionals and students as well as other interested individuals from across the world.

Certificate of Attendance

All participants will be awarded an official certificate of attendance upon completion of the program, which will provide details of the speakers who took part and the topics discussed. Sustainable Network »

During the weeklong program the participants will have opportunities to network amongst each other, with the speakers, as well as with ICD Advisory Board Members and partners. Academy Session participants become part of a growing international network of people from across the world with different fields of interest and levels of experience who share a commitment to intercultural exchange. Participants will be able to remain in touch with each other through the ICD Networks.
